Daun Curry is the creative force behind Modern Declaration, a prestigious design firm in New York City. I fell in love with her style as soon I came across the first page of her web site.
Not only are the spaces she designs glamorous.... but so is her own line of custom furnishings.

Take a look at this beauty... Designed by Spanish architect, Ricardo Bofill.
Ricardo discovered this landmark Gem in 1973. The factory was part of an industrial complex from the turn of the century, comprising over 30 silos, underground galleries and huge engine rooms. The factory was abandoned and partially in ruins. The complex stands in the midst of gardens of eucalyptus, palms, olive trees and cypresses and features Ricardo Bofill’s house and guest rooms. I think this is luxury living... reinvented.

Ahhhh... The long lost art of hand rendering without computer aid. It truly is an art form.

Anyway, back to A Schematic life blogspot... Michelle Morelan is the talented Illustrator/Interior designer based in Canada.

She also has an Etsy store where she sells her art work and her hand rendered cards.

I honestly haven't done hand renderings since I was in school and I absolutely loved it! Too bad no one really has a budget for them in real life.. but it's so nice to see that someone as talented as Michelle is passionate about her craft and lives it everyday. Such an inspiration Michelle.

Ok, this isn't me and these aren't mine, but I sure did buy a new "bright white" car two days ago..and then I bought a "warm white" coach bag yesterday... and this is exactly how i felt... !

Two things I've wanted for a very long time and needed...just kept putting off. Hey, if your gonna do it, do it right....right? At least that's what I've been trying to convince myself of the last two days.

It's good.. . No, it's perfect! I have to learn to enjoy the moment.

A New Year...

It's been a little while since my last post. So much has happened and life is evolving as it should.

I started a new job in August, which is why I haven't posted. Finally adjusting and feeling like I've got the hang of things. I love my job and I'm so grateful to be able to design, to create and make even a small difference in so many peoples lives.

I'm looking for a new place... very exciting!

My children are wonderful, happy little people and although they've had to endure many changes over the last year, they are resilient, loving, hysterical and so smart... They make my life full and all I have to do is look at their faces and my life feels perfect.

My future is looking brighter... New beginnings, new perspective, new dreams, new desires and WHOLE NEW YEAR ahead!

So, I am going to do my best to do what I love most. Create, create, create...

Hopefully I can add a little inspiration to your daily reads...

Eliot studied Industrial Design and is also a jeweler. She has established herself as a distinctive voice in the field of jewelery design through her innovative meshing of traditional skills with technology. Adam Hoets is a registered Architect who has specialised in Eco Architecture.

Together this dynamic team custom design each piece made of hundreds of chain strands that are cut and assembled by hand. Recognized by Elle decor and the overall winners of the Elle Decor "Designers of the Year" in 2009. I would say well deserved....

Hello again...

So lets say I lived in Spain and I was looking for an interior design position..hmmm... Where would I go? Now I know! Its a no brainer for me. It would be with this incredibly talented visionary...Lazaro Rosa-Violan. Loooove saying his name in Spanish...Just roles right off the tongue.

He says his inspirations range from David Hicks, Geo Ponti and Kelly Wearstler. Another thing I love about him, because I also draw inspiration from the same designers.... His style is definitely luxurious and contemporary, but he's drawn to vintage and that's what makes all of his designed spaces unique. Mr. Violan has designed luxury hotels, retail boutiques, restaurants to residential properties. His own studio is one space to certainly take note of.

I was surfing the internet last night in search of some design inspiration. I came across this fabulous design studio, Paula + Martha LLC, based right here in NYC. Loving their design aesthetic! Every room room has an eclectic mix of modern and classic design elements... A perfect combination of old and new, with pieces so carefully selected for each space. I love how this design duo adds just enough color throughout by incorporating the perfect piece of art and accessory. It's all in the detail and I think they're right on...Enjoy!

Isabella takes her camera just about everywhere! She is so enamoured by graffiti and industrialism. So here are few pictures she took today on our way home from Brooklyn. Just thought they were soooo cool, had to share.

We decided to collect all her best pics, print them out and frame them to use as art work in our new apartment. I'm such a proud mama!

Hi again!

I am so glad to be back. I haven't posted in over three months.
2010 has certainly been a life changing year for me so far. I just moved into my first apartment with my two children after 14 years of marriage. I started a new job in NYC after a 9 month search. I am learning to be with myself and the tears are slowly turning into smiles...

Blogging is one of my favorite things to do, but for a while i just couldn't find the inspiration. I am very happy to report that I am ready to explore all things inspired and share them with you. Let's say that this is part of my healing process.

With that said, thank you so much...To those of you that have hung in there with me and stopped by every once in a while. Thanks to my new followers even though I haven't posted in a little while. I am looking forward to connecting with all of my new and old blogger friends again!

Hello again my blogger friends!!!! I took a little time off to soul search and job search. The new year has already proven to be a great beginning for me. I finally found a great job... I will be an Event Designer for an upscale floral design and events company in NYC. I start next week and I'm very excited about this wonderful opportunity. I will try to post at least three times a week from here on in. In addition to blogging about interior design, I will also have to blog about my adventures in event planning. Thanks to all my sweet blogger friends for hangin in there...I truly appreciate it and I've missed you so much!

My first post is about this fabulous hot spot located in what was the French Quarter of London’s Soho, housed in four Georgian houses running up to five floors and accommodating spaces such as, lounge nooks, pudding bar, champagne bar, brasserie & private living. Kettners was founded in 1867 by Napoleon III former chef, August Kettner and has been the gem of many centuries. Recently refurbished and full of old world charm...these spaces, the furnishing and the ornament make me swoon....Enjoy!

I came across Christopher Coleman Interiors a little while back and of course, I was very impressed...Not only is he a talented designer, but he designs very chic and bold children's furniture too. His children's furniture is so sophisticated, I had to take a second look just to make sure I was reading it correctly...This Brooklyn based designer knows how to create a space that is elegant, full of texture with graphic sensibility... Just take a look at what he's done with this home gym above....If I had a room this, maybe I would work out more often...Enjoy!

behind Simbl, the luxury home accessories brand launched in 2006.

These beautiful accessories are all about texture with each piece

Shall we say that my mind has definitely been in travel mode this week? I just came across the very chic boutique hotel 40 WinKs located in East London. Jackie @ (Home blogspot)....My fabulous British blogger friend...you probably already know all about this place, I'm sure! I am in love! How hot is this 18th century Queen Anne townhouse? From what I understand, it's a hot spot for photographers, stylists, art directors, models and I would say any creative type...or wanna be creative type....let's be fair. It has just two guest rooms, which must be the smallest boutique hotel in existence! Room "one" is $89.00 a night and room "two" is $125.00...I know...affordable too.

The home is an eclectic mix of shabby chic; old and new; chock full of glamour...It's actually the home of London Based interior designer, David Carter...Love, love, love this place! So much eye candy and so much charm...I can't take it...Just see for yourself...Enjoy!

Hello again....my blogger friends! I missed you guys....so glad to be back. I thought it would be nice to take a ride down fantasy lane. This view just took my breath away the moment I clicked on it. Ahhhh....Capri. The very chic J.K. Palace hotel of course located in Capri, Italy is my love affair for the day.... The attention to detail...the relaxed yet opulent decor...so familiar, almost like home....the splashes of color....the view! I love it all... For a mere $1100..00 a night and that's for a classic room, I can make this dream my reality. Who knows...maybe I'll splurge and go for the penthouse suite. It's only $4500.00. What the heck, you only live once......Enjoy!

Hello my blogging friends! I miss you guys soooo much, it's ridiculous! I haven't posted in almost two weeks and I am so embarrassed... Well, here is the deal. I used to be a floral designer before I became an interior designer. One of the event planners I did work for asked me if I was interested in doing flowers for one of her premiers. So, of course I said yes and so I am doing the trees for the premier "Where The Wild Things Are" at the MOMA. Here is a picture of some of the flowers I'm using. I had to do a sample at the last minute and thankfully they love it and I'm doing it! I may not post much the next week, because the premier is on Tuesday. I will be back will a vengeance next week though...Miss you guys, really. I can't wait to get back into the groove of things...See you soon!

A Peak at my Block Printed Fabric...

Yesterday...I finally started working on my block printed fabric! This is something I have wanted to do for quite some time now... I have sketch books with many drawings in them and so many ideas in my head. I have carved out blocks of my drawings, purchased paint and all of the materials needed for surface design..Read book after book and researched other textile designers for inspiration..but I haven't actually put it all into action until now... So here is a sneak peak at the very beginning of Mimi Betancourt Textiles...I have selected to show you a couple of geometrics, although I'm pretty fond of florals and Japanese motifs as well. Today I was playing with mediums (block printing and silk screening) and mixing lots of color...I had a such a blast and I am so inspired. I have a long road ahead, but I know it's all going to happen exactly the way I dream it...Enjoy!

My new home office/studio...

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I posted on Friday and talked about moving forward towards having everything that I want...and why not, right? Well, I didn't have much time to post last week because I was working on my new home office/studio space. I thought you might be interested in seeing the progress.

OK..this was originally a dining room. Then it became the doggy room (my son calls it the doggy room). Then it became the office/dining room...then the "whatever"you throw in there room...We only eat dinner in this space on Thanksgiving...literally! My husband and the kids use the computer in here..I have my own laptop to work off of thank goodness!

By the way, I took this picture when my husband already started working on the book shelf, so everything is pushed to the corner. I really don't live this way...I did however manage to stuff all of my books into this one bookshelf and storage below. I also managed to stick the computer in there...So as you can see, we really needed to do something.

The point of this first step is for me to have a home studio to finally put my dreams into action.

As I push forward, I will be documenting my progress and certainly sharing the love...It's not completed yet. There are still small things I would like to add/change, but it is a start. I also had to do this on a SERIOUS budget...I'm talking under $500 for everything! So...Here it is..the beginning..Enjoy!

I put together a CAD drawing of the unit I wanted my husband to build..The plywood comes in 4x8 sheets, so I made the unit 8' high x 8' wide. That made this piece much easier for him to cut and it cost about $275.00 including the molding and the sheets for the back piece.

So much storage now...I love it! By the way...the liquor tray was in there when the space was a dining room...You never know when you might need a drink...

Gotta go...off to work!

Here's a thought..don't you think? Having everything you want can seem impossible. What if you really take a moment to stop and think about what that truly means to you? It's like the Oprah "Aha" moment. Well, as you already know..I have been job hunting for a while now and the dream job I had built up in my head has not come knocking at my door.

It has certainly been a learning process and it has proven that I was right all along...What I mean is that the little voice inside my head was right all along..It is OK to have everything I want.

I truly want to create...inspire...make a difference...be with my children...spend time with my husband...go on a vacation to the South of Italy...blog everyday...design...decorate..take an upholstery class...and...by the way, I can make a great living doing what I love too! It's not impossible for me to have any of these things. So...the first step is to recognize it and the next is to take baby steps towards making it all happen. Authenticity is the word..I can have everything I want, because it is truly what makes me...Me! Why not?

So...this week I was a busy bee working on my unused dining room and converting it into my new and inspiring office/studio. It was hard to step away from the computer for a week..but I had to do it or I could never get this first step done.

Next weeks agenda...To actually take my sketches and put them to screen and fabric...

Oh...I can't wait! It's all out in the open and on my new inspiration board! My love for fabric will become a reality soon..Stay tuned.

I get so excited when I find a cool designer and I can share the love...Alexandra Loew was recognized by our beloved Domino magazine, as a "Top Ten" rising talent and she is the brainchild behind these fab interiors. The name is so catchy, isn't it? Turns out she's such a huge fan of the movie Charlies Angles and the mysterious "Charlie"... that she dreamt up her own fictional character "Lola". Hence...the inspiration for the name of her LA based design firm "From the desk of Lola". I fell in love with her design aesthetic immediately...Love your style..so glad I found you Lola!

I live just across the river from Manhattan and I remember that day so vividly...and still, every time I pass by it when I'm in Manhattan, it feels surreal. To my kind friend John who lost his life in the towers...you are missed.

David Wiseman...ceiling art

Hi my blogger friends...I'm so happy to be back! I had a wonderful and productive weekend. I was searching for some original content in the wee hours of the night and found this wonderfully talented artist, David Wiseman. Just breathtaking...David's sculptural art interprets nature in the most unique way. From what I can see his medium may be plaster, porcelain and bronze, although I'm not absolutely sure because there isn't too much background information on him. I do know that in addition to his commissioned work, he does bronze fireplace covers, lighting, vases in crystal and porcelain, as well as some unique children's accessories. His original pieces are available through The R Gallery in NYC. I hope to one day be able to actually use him on a design project...He is just incredible artisan..Enjoy!

At Home with Tibi founder...Amy Smilovic

I have been looking for design inspiration for my new home office and I came across these great photos of Tibi Founder, Amy Smilovic.. in her own fabulous office. I really love the inspiration board and wall below...It shows how similiar the design process is, whether it's for fashion or interiors. Amy popped up yesterday too when I was organizing my magazine shelves. I found a very worn June 2008 issue of InStyle, featuring Amy Smilovic's Connecticut home. I'm So glad I did, because the color palette is totally what I was looking for. I actually carried around that magazine last year for a whole month trying to match my roman blinds fabric to her yellow chaise. Since she popped up twice in two days, I just had to feature her.

Amy Smilovic is the founder of the fabulous Tibi clothing line if you don't already know. Her story is pretty inspiring. She founded her company in 1997, shortly after she and her husband moved to Hong Kong. Her husband was transferred there with his job at American Express. Amy was also an employee with American Express and continuing with the company would have met reporting to him! Read more about Amy's great story on Ladies Who Launch, you'll enjoy it. BTW...My InStyle issue that features Amy Smilovic's home is in such bad shape that I had to search for better pictures. Good thing...because I found Mark Lund. Italian designer...Piero Fornasetti

Aren't these the espresso cups fantastic? These hand painted porcelain pieces are by Fornasetti from the "Matematica" collection. Made bespoke only, they and are exclusively available on Couture Lab. I'm so glad I found them, because I now have a new found love for Fornasetti pieces. I never really new much about the brand or the designer behind it, accept that they designed these cool black and white plates with a sort of renaissance woman's face on them.

The mastermind behind this brand is Italian artist Piero Fornasetti. Fornasetti was a painter, an interior decorator, an engraver of art books and creator of more than 11,000 items. He went on to become a respected interior designer during the Forties and Fifties and created pieces with a heavy emphasis on surface decoration.

Fornasatti looked to the past for inspiration and excavated classical and Renaissance iconography such as suns, moons, harlequins, hands, beautiful female faces, along with classical architectural features such as columns. You can find the Fornasetti style on hats, coats, chairs, pianos, plates and boxes, just to name a few.

The most popular series, The "Tema a Variazioni" (theme and variation) which features the face of a woman, is operatic soprano Lina Cavalieri. Fornasetti found her face in a 19th century magazine. He was so fascinated with her face that he went on to create over 350 variations.

Foransetti's son, Barnaba is continuing his fathers hand crafted workshop tradition through the production and revival of his most popular pieces.

I have put together a small collection of Fornesetti vintage 50's and 60's for you to admire. Hope to you come to appreciate this artist and his art form as much as I have...Enjoy!

Today is my 14th year wedding anniversary and I would like to dedicate this post to my incredible husband.

My love...how quickly time passes and what a beautiful life we have built together. Look at us in this picture fourteen years ago. We are so lucky to have found each other. Thank you for always supporting me and standing by me. Thank you for our beautiful children and for being the most patient and giving father in the world. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and your kindness. Thank you for giving so much of yourself and always doing it with a smile. Thank you for making me laugh every single day...There are a million things I can thank you for my sweet husband, but most of all, thank you for loving me with all of your heart. DIY Wall Panels...fabric or wallpaper?

The September issue of Martha Stewart Living featured this fabric wall panel idea..then I saw the idea again in the September issue of Real Simple, so I thought it would be a great idea to share the love! I also think this a fun and affordable way to add some interest to a room.

Real Simple glued vintage fabric to quarter-inch foam core, then framed the panels with a simple molding and topped with four prints.

Hello my blogger friends...I know that this is a place where all is positive and inspiring. I have to be honest though, lately I have had some trouble in that department. Job hunting has not been easy...Revising my cover letter time after time to suit that particular position..applying for jobs that are much broader than I ever imagined...Not getting any response whatsoever..and it's getting harder to stay on track to find the light at the end of the tunnel. My posts have been few lately and I haven't had time to comment either, but I am still trying my best to keep it movin'. So, this is me, feelin' like I'm stuck...I have to keep reminding myself that I am very talented and I have so much to offer. Something great is out there and it's waiting for me. I just have to brush off the disappointment and keep my chin up...I am certainly not a quitter..I hope you guys won't give up on me either!

I fell in love with this chair while searching for my 1st dibs design crushes...I think this chair is hot! This chair is made in France by acclaimed french designer Jean-Marie Massaudy. Named the"Ad Hoc" chair, it is a limited first edition of five. The $15,575 price tag may be a bit for most, but one never knows...

Last night I finally got the September issue of Elle Decor in the mail and found this beautiful porcelain dinnerware. This dinnerware is Kelly Wearstler's design debut for Pickard available at Bergdorf Goodman...and I'm in love with this too..Price range is from $75 for a salad plate to $328 for a serving bowl.

I think Kelly's Hammered Cuff napkins rings for SFERRA are a lovely match with her dinnerware priced at $170 for a set.

I also really like her Spectrum needlepoint pillow for SFERRA. It's 100% Linen with embroidery filled with 95/5 feather down, priced at $275. Love this pillow to throw over the Ad Hoc chair!

Finally I thought it would be nice to add a vase for centerpiece floral action...Vivre is always the best place..I found this large brass off center vase priced at a reasonable $175.

So hot!

Trying to land that dream job...

After a long weekend of dreaming up ideas on how to "land" my dream job, now it is time to actually focus! I am an interior designer, but I have many years of creative experience in other fields. I applied for a position with Tiffany & Co. last Thursday and I really want to do more to make myself stand out from the other hundreds of applicants there must be for this job.

This is a creative position and I truly feel like this job was made for me! I need to work on putting together a creative package to send to Human Resources directly. That is my goal for the week..My deadline is Thursday...exactly one week from the day I applied for this position.

So, my dear blogging friends...I need to "focus" on this project and I probably will not be able to post until Friday..I hope you understand. This really means a lot to me and I just have to try!

My Hampton Designer Showhouse tour ...

I finally made it to the showhouse yesterday...A couple of days late, but I made it!!! As you already know, I was hoping to make it out there with my hubby this weekend, but he was called on to do a last minute event and he had to work. I just need to mention that he made the bar for JLo's 4oth birthday bash...Black, tufted with chandeliers inside of it...So fabulous!

Anyway, back to the showhouse...My wonderful and beautiful friend Violet was gracious enough to accept my invitation and I couldn't have had a better time. I had great company; I met a bunch of wonderful people; the house was stunning and the rooms were inspiring. As a designer I love to attend showhouses, because they remind me of why I love interior design so much. I truly feel such joy when I see each and every space. Every designer had their own vision and they did a great job executing it. I have my favorites, but I can certainly appreciate every design.

The Hampton Designer Showhouse is presented by Traditional Home to benefit the Southhampton Hospital and was built by Farrell Building Co.

Ok, Ok...I know you're dying to get to the good stuff! I have lots of pictures for you to pine over. Nothing like the real thing, but I'm sure you're going to love it as much as I did...Enjoy!

The dining room was designed by Marshall Watson Interiors. The light fixtures were very interesting and innovative. The wall stencil and the ceiling detail was carefully addressed and the chair covers were even customized with guest names...I loved the upholstery of the settee too...Nice dinner party..Hmmm, maybe I'm overdue!

The Butler's Pantry and Powder Room were designed by Katie Ridder, presenting her collection of hand-printed wallpaper for Holland & Sherry. I knew right away that it was Katie's signature paper...beautiful!

Brad Ford ID...If you must know, this is one of my favorite rooms. Monochromatic at its best..the room was loaded with creativity, form, texture and light. A perfectly cohesive design...and who wouldn't love the idea of sofas suspended from the ceiling?

This is me! So happy..

This wall sculpture got a lot of attention. The cones felt like plaster, although I'm not absolutely sure. There were hundreds of these cones in alternating sized, with twine threaded through them, also suspended from the ceiling. The result was genius!

This enormous kitchen, at least to my standards, was designed by Rinfret Interiors. The light just flooded into this space everywhere...White marble counter tops throughout, two porcelain farmhouse sinks, two refrigerators, gorgeous wood floors and country chic with a little whimsy all over the place. This kitchen was full of charm and all the amenities a perfect kitchen needs.

Here is my beautiful friend, Violet...so happy, just like me! She was in love with these chairs.

The living room, another one of my favorite spaces, was designed by Robert Stilin...I was so wrapped up in this gorgeous room and observing every detail, that I forgot to take pictures! This is the only picture I shot...I was sitting in the most comfortable metal and twine chair from across the way and this is all I have to show you...Well, take my word for it, the room was full of pristine mid century pieces with custom upholstery and breathtaking art. It felt warm, comfortable and very livable.

The Master Sitting Room was designed by Hamilton Design Associates. I really like that this designer was able to take a risk by combining contrasting patterns and vibrant colors into such a small space perfectly. It was very charming and comfortable and seemed to take me back in time...just lovely!

Bedroom VI was designed by Nathan Egan Interiors. This dynamic design team always knows just how to incorporate an eclectic mix of art and furnishing into their designs...Such the risk takers...I just couldn't help but spend the most time in this room because there was so much to enjoy. Color, art and originality!

The junior master suite was designed by Bradley Thiergartner Interiors. This room had so many interesting elements. Their design was tailored and traditional with a twist. It seemed that no matter which view of the room I took, it was like a perfectly designed vignette. Interesting antique pieces and carefully selected groupings everywhere. I really appreciated this room because of the attention to detail...I did find the art work over the bed a little disturbing though. I wouldn't want that to be the last thing is see in the evening and the first thing I see in the morning..

The master bathroom, designed by Brady Design was super spacious and just gorgeous! I loved every element about it. The color palette was soothing with the perfect geometric wallpaper and pops of color and texture. The space had a modern and glamorous feel. I especially loved the soaker tub and the murano glass chandelier, not to mention the biggest rain shower you have ever seen! Pure luxury...

The dressing room, designed by Kat Burki featured striae pale green walls, a mix of antique and contemporary pieces, and this fab cow hide rug, which I think is a Kyle Bunting rug. I had a custom rug designed from Kyle for the Hamptons Cottages and Gardens showhouse project I worked on last year while at my previous firm...great choice!

Viva Las Vegas! This media room was designed by Joe Ginsberg for S.E.A.L Solutions, a tech lifestyles company. Just one remote control for every feature in this room. Surround sound, color kinetics LED lighting, alarm system and the list could go on... This little box could even tell me the weather..Sensory overload right at the tips of your fingers...Who wouldn't want a private media room at home?

Hi...I'm in here...This gazabo, designed my Miguel Elias, was the filled with potted orchids from Dutch Petals and one of my favorite yellow fabrics from Quadrille! Very charming.

We've finally made it to the guest house designed by Lillian August. The concept for this poolhouse was based on a summer studio inhabited by an artistic couple. Tranquility is the best word I can think to describe this space. It felt very spacious, even though the scale of the furniture was pretty large. The art selection flowed perfectly and these floors were stunning! My personal favorite feature.....just the perfect ending to my designer showhouse experience.

I have been a busy bee this week, sending out resumes and writing creative cover letter, after cover letter...my job search for the week is almost over...What I would love more than anything right now is to drive out to the Hamptons, go to the beach tomorrow and on Sunday morning, I would attend the opening of the Hampton Designer Showhouse. I'll let you know on Monday if it actually happened...I have to get a baby sitter first! And so is this one, which you already know I'm in love with... I look at my almost pristine oak floors every now and then and ponder at the idea of just going for it! Then the doubt sets in...What If I get sick of it after a couple of years...like a fad? What would I do then? On the other hand..What if painting my floor is the ONE detail that will make my house feel perfect!

These are the questions I ask myself, every time I see a perfectly painted floor like this one...

Can't figure this one out either....As a designer, why would I not hesitate to do this for someone else, but I cannot build up the courage to do this for myself?

Home office luxury - sleek & chic...

This simply sleek and chic home office belongs to Jimmy Choo's president..Tamara Mellon. It has always been one of my favorites, although it is just for looks. No paper work aloud here!

The colors, its simplicity and eclectic decor are all about style!

This is the home office of the one and only Monique Lhuillier. The charcoal grey walls make this room feel warm and sophisticated...and hide the built ins perfectly. This office is more functional and practical.. there is actually storage space! I also like the white desk top with lucite legs. The legs make the desk seem like it's floating and creates an airy feel in small room. Perfect furniture selection for this space.

I'm sure you've all seen this office before...The infamous Nate Berkus office. The one thing I really love about this room are the walls. From what I can remember, the walls are metallic leaf and are original to the space.

This home office belongs to Architect Natalia Bianchi and her sister Alessis who live together in this Milanese palace in Milan...Yes, I did say "Palace". Cool blues, greys and green...a parchment desk, antique French bergeres, floors of old Tuscan stone...just beautiful!

My very wonderful friend just sent me an email titled, "I love..". She sent me a list of all the things she loves and at the end she wrote, "your turn..". So, I thought it would be a really cool idea to tell you what I love and maybe you could do the same. Although this is not design related, I think this is a great way to start off your Monday with inspiration.

Here is the list I sent her. I love...

My children, my husband, my house, interior design, architecture, Italy, magazines, the ocean, eyelash curlers, very shiny things, the color yellow, dancing, salsa music, flowers, creating anything, hearing my kids call me mommy, vintage dresses, classic musicals (anything with Gene Kelly, Sophia Lauren, Audrey Hepburn), the smell of fresh cut grass, the smell of a baby, vintage furniture, vintage jewelry (anything vintage), friendship, talking, laughing, photography, art, ice cream, espresso, sex ;), very high heels, strapless anything, big jewelry, handbags, make-up, The French language, a clean house, spontaneity, espresso martinis, port wine, silence, dreaming.., the thought of traveling through Europe, boats, the smell of the ocean, success...walking barefoot, a beautifully set table, marshmallows.

Bleu treillage a la Miles Redd...

Isn't this the most beautiful trellis you have ever seen? The color is the perfect shade of blue...Of course, this is the gorgeous terrace of the one and only Miles Redd. He is at the top of my list of favorite designers. He's just fearless and so imaginative! As soon as I read this article in the April 2008 issue of Domino, I went out and bought this blue paint...It's just stunning! The color is Benjamin Moore 727 (Calyspo Blue). Just go out and buy a pint. I'm sure it will inspire you to paint something in this color. I reupholstered and painted two fauteuil chairs of mine. This has to be the most dreamy terrace in NYC...Hope these images inspire you...Enjoy!

Thinking about how to change the dynamic of a room, but you're not up to buying an expensive piece of furniture? Why not just keep what you have and cover it up! A skirt is a great way to conceal unsightly furniture or not so unsightly... You could just be in the mood for change.

An inexpensive fabric, velcro, fabric fusion tape and grosgrain ribbon can go a long way on a tight budget to quickly transform a space. If you're lucky to have some sewing talent, you may opt to forgo the velcro... Hope these pics inspire you to start your own DIY skirted project...Enjoy!

For all you chocolate lovers...Chocolatines has created "Chocouture" 24k gold diamond collection. These single-malt Scotch ganache chocolates are hand painted with gold leaf. Is your bedside style filled with a collection of your most treasured art? Do you enjoy reading in bed? Are fresh flowers the first thing you want to see when you wake up every morning? How about family photos? I think a bedside table can say a lot about a person...I personally enjoy reading before bed, so I have to have good lighting and I sometimes light a candle for fragrance. I have to have an alarm clock of course, but no way would I ever have a phone in my bedroom, let alone my bedside table... I have a small journal and a pen to jot down any ideas I may have before bed and finally, I have a black and white photo of my wedding day. What does your bedside style say about you?

Well...my little foyer and hallway are finally done. I really wanted to do the infamous KWID trellis paper, but way above my budget. I did find this great paper that's so similar and I love it! My husband added the millwork because we have children. I don't think the paper would hold up very long with my son's little hands running up and down the stair hall...I am very happy with the results and I thought you might like to see it too!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I just want to mention that I didn't have as much time as I wanted to finish my mini kitchen re-do...but I should have some pics next week. I made my husband promise that we wouldn't make any plans next weekend, so that we can catch up with things around the house. For now, I would like to introduce you to Jane Packer...

Jane is an amazing artist and very talented floral designer from England. I was a floral designer for a very long time, so when I see a beautful book on flowers, I just have to have it! This book takes you through a step by step guide on creating some simple; some more advanced, yet elegant flowers for any occasion. The flower selection is wonderful! You'll be creating your own stunning arrangments in no time at all. You really should pick up a copy...You never know when you might need some inspiration...Enjoy!

This weekend is chock full of activity....I am going to visit a friend in PA that I haven't seen in ten years! I am so excited to see her and finally meet her children. I am also hosting a small birthday get together on Sunday for my sister and in the midst of all of that, I still have to finish my mini-kitchen redo project. The cabinets and the hardware have to go up. So ..I have parties, entertaining and kitchen on the brain. Love it! Hope you have a nice weekend too!

My kitchen inspiration

I am in kitchen thinking mode right now. I took down all of my cabinets yesterday and decided that I would give my kitchen a mini re-do. I will show you some pictures on Monday.

For now...you may enjoy dreaming about this one. This beautiful space is my favorite kitchen...The only thing I would change is the overhead light. I've saved this picture for sooooo long, in hopes that we could renovate. I love the doors that surround the entire space and the wrap around porch. The high ceilings and additional storage up above with of course, the sliding ladder and marble counter tops. This is my dream kitchen, but mine is very small. So...let me give myself a little reality check. Here are some other inspiration picks... for my reality kitchen. Enjoy!

Don't know about all of the exposed shelving, but I like the marble, the white cabinets and the overhead lighting.

I like the space planning of the kitchen, because we're thinking of tearing down the wall that divides the kitchen and dining room. The counter may be an idea. Although, I think the subway tile has been overdone a little. Maybe installing them vertically..?

This is a nice idea if we tear down the wall..Maybe just a larger island?

I really like this farmhouse sink and the glass tile back splash. I also love the marble, but I don't know if we could afford to do marble counter tops. Who knows...I have ideas.

IKAT - design it and roundup

The word “ikat” means “to bind.” It is a very ancient way of creating designs in fabric by resist-dyeing the threads before the fabric is woven. In Uzbekistan, villagers especially in Ferghana Valley take the weft (crosswise filling threads) and tie tiny bits of plastic onto the threads. The tightly tied areas of thread, when put into the dye pot, resist the color and create a pattern, once the plastic ties are removed. Traditional Uzbek ikat cottons are often dyed in lively and engaging motifs representing the village life and beliefs of the people. Ikats are often symbols of status, wealth, power and prestige. Modern Uzbek adras ikats in cotton and silk are brightly colored with good imported natural dyes.

I own a yellow and white Ikat armchair that I absolutely love....When I added that chair to my living room, it just instantly brightened up the room. Here are some of my favorite rooms with a touch of ikat and an affordable and accessible ikat roundup...Enjoy!

Small kitchen idea..

The July issue of House Beautiful had a great idea for small kitchens...Adding antiqued mirrored glass on the cabinet doors! I really love this idea because my kitchen is teeny tiny, just like this one. I was ready to go out and do this over the weekend, but my husband put the breaks on my idea. For a while we've wanted to tear down the wall that separates my kitchen and dining room. Who uses their dining room anymore? Anytime you have people over, they always hang out in the kitchen, right? He says it's going to happen soon. We'll see... I really, really hope so. If not, the mirrors are goin' up!

I fell in love with this residence the moment I layed eyes on it! This Bahamas retreat is the de Givenchy Residence, designed by Tom Scheerer. From the moment you walk in the door you feel relaxed living. I love the simplicity of the space. The space is minimal and you can clearly see that each piece was carefully selected. This space breaths elegance and understated chic living. This is what I call a relaxing retreat...Enjoy!

Say hi to Alix...She is the creator of The Cherry Blossom Girl blogspot in Paris. This charming young lady is the talented visionary behind these delightful photos. While I was searching and searching and searching the web for new content..I decided to check out some Parisian fashion blogs and Voila'..there she was. Alix is actually a recent graduate who studied fashion design. She started her blog shortly after graduating a couple years ago. While doing so, her passion for photography sprung to life. I probably sat there and looked over all of her work, because I was just incredibly impressed by this young girl's talent. Most of the photographs are of her telling a story, with her flair for fashion so apparent and the Parisian background so appropriately staged. Here is just a taste of her lovely work...You are amazing and so inspiring Alix!

Travel is this weeks topic and I thought a little decadence may be in order...Moscow is my destination of the day. Opulence and glamour may be an understatement for this luxurious work of art! Baccarat, as I am sure you already know, is a luxury brand of crystal glassware, accessories, jewelry and lighting. Maison Baccarat, Moscow was designed by the legendary Philippe Starck. Hope you like what you see...Enjoy!

Maison Baccarat is on one of the most prestigious streets in Moscow, Nikolskaya Ulitsa, and is located in a historic building from the late 1800s, previously the home of the largest pharmacy in Europe. The chandeliers are all Baccarat and the furnishings include tables and chairs designed by Philippe Starck.

Small Hotels - Big Personality..

I thought it would be nice to feature a hotel, since yesterdays post was about luxe travel must haves. I was hoping to find something international, but to my delight, I came across this very cool boutique hotel group in San Fransisco, CA., appropriately named Personality Hotels. It's all in the family and has been a family owned business for 25 years. Yvonne Lembi-Detert, pictured below is the woman behind these unique and very chic hotels. Two thumbs up Yvonne...for being the woman hotelier' behind all of these hot spots! Fabulous and inspirational!

Newly renovated, HOTEL VERTIGO has a hip and playful style and offers fun and fine dining at Bar Florence.

UNION SQUARE hotel was built in 1913 and has stayed true to its art deco history. This hotel offers bring the kids suites complete with Nintendo Wii, Mac computers and children's toys..

This hotel is also kid friendly and offers "Zen Kids Suites". This hotel is also the home of Farmer Brown Restaurant known for its Neo Soul food menu and jazz music..

HOTEL KENSINGTON is located in the heart of San Fransisco and is known for is elegant grand lobby. This hotel is also the home of Farallon Restaurant which is designed to feel like an under water experience...

STEINHART HOTEL is reminiscent of the 1930's Art Deco San Fran. and exemplifies the essence of San Fransisco living. The hotel has recently undergone a total renovation and was featured in House Beautiful Magazine.

The pricing for a hotel stay can range from $79 to $750, but I think there is certainly a place to accommodate everyone. Love it!

I am very excited about a decision that I made today and I would like to share it. I have decided that I'm ready to back to college to earn a Bachelor's Degree... It's kind of a big deal since I am 37 years old, married with two kids and I just graduated with an associates in 2008. Going to college was such a life changing experience for me. It was difficult, but I appreciated every moment and felt such pride and accomplishment. I just never thought that college was in the cards for me. One of my dreams is to create my own line of textiles and so I'm off! I am open to unlimited possibilities.... Well, I have to keep my fingers crossed. I applied today and had my transcripts sent to the university. Now I wait....and hope they call me back to present my portfolio. Keep your fingers crossed for me...Just the thought is making me teary eyed. OMG! Fine Arts!!! I love it!

Globe Trotting: LOOK LIST

Travel was my inspirations for this weeks Luxe List.

Here is how I would do this;

Step 1: Luxe City Guides are the chicest pocket size travel guides...full of places luxe finders truly love! I would need these just because...I don't need a reason, do I?

FYI: I think this would be wonderful wedding gift. Definitely inspire the newlyweds to live large too...

Step 2: I would have to travel in style with this Globe-Trotter LTD luxury vanity case. It's probably the only piece of luggage from this line that I could afford....

Step 3: Then I would pack up this almost pocket size Strida folding bicycle...How hot is this? It comes in like a million colors, it's eco-friendly and I wouldn't have to rent a scooter. Totally worth it!

Step 4: Last but not least...I would most definitely need this fantabulous Vivienne Tam Clutch Laptop. HP hit it right on the nose when they asked her to design this showpiece...Sooo pretty, isn't it?

Now, I just need to plan a vacation...My 14 year wedding anniversary is in August. Who knows?

Creole "Nesting Spot"

I was looking through some old cottage living inspiration...and I came across this lovely abode again. This over sized birdhouse is actually two octagonal pigeonniers, built in Louisiana, circa 1750. The owner of this space is a fabric and fashion designer who used her love for thrift shop finds to decorate and create her own "nesting spot". I hope you love this as much as I do...Enjoy!

Bockler Architectural Prints

I came across these beautiful antique prints on Panteek online while I was searching for inspiration for my textile collection. I love these geometric patterns and the history behind these engravings just fascinates me.

These rare prints are engravings of George Andreas Bockler (1648-1685), “Architectura Curiosa Nova” published in 1664 in Nuremberg, Germany. Bockler, a German architect and engineer from Nuremberg was fascinated with water-raising devices, mills and other industrial machinery, fountains and all things mechanical, especially machines with many gears and complex moving parts. The fourth part of “Architectura Curiosa Nova” has intricate designs for garden pavilions and garden paths, including illustrations of palaces in Europe. Hope these inspire you too...Enjoy!

Ok...Its almost 2:00 am. I've had a dirty martini and now a glass of sangria...Thinking a lot about where to go next. I feel kind of stuck. I left my job in December to pursue my own dreams. It's going a little slower that I thought. I am doing what I set out to do... I started this blog. I love it, but I've realized that seeing results will take time. I am working on my line of textiles, slowly.. and I'm trying to get myself out there as a designer. Although I've been a little more reluctant about the latter. I just feel like something is holding me back. I'm not really sure what the thing is...I feel stuck! So, the million dollar question to self is...What would I do if I knew I could not fail? Am I already doing it? When will I know?

Sigh.....

By adding some faux library wallpaper, a lot of paint, eclectic furniture and art.. they have created a space on a shoestring budget that screams urban chic!

Nanette Lepore: Designer and Collector

Nanette Lepore's chic and free spirited fashion designs are all about femininity and modernity...but her eclectic taste in interiors and enthusiasm for collecting is what appeals to me most. The fashion designer lives in an 1849 Italianate townhouse in Manhattan's West Village. This Victorian gem was decorated by Jonathan Adler and is chock full of fabulous vintage finds. A little old, combined with a little new, equals my idea of great design...Happy Friday...Enjoy!
